Infinity symbols, roses and pornographic images, the tattoo truth in Leicester
Infinity symbols, roses, crosses and cover ups, appear to be the most popular tattoos in Leicester currently- but these trends can easily change.
Samantha Broadbent 26, a Tattoo artist based at Empire Tattoo Club in Leicester comments on this “There’s a lot of stages of tattoos; in the 90s we had the lower back tattoos, whereas ‘now a days’, its more butterfly’s swirls and infinity symbols”.
It appears that the residents that have body art within Leicester are also a fan of cover ups, and risqué tattoos across their body- the thrill of having a tattoo there that no one can see.
Samantha recalls one of the most shocking experiences she’s had in her 5 years of tattooing- “we had a guy come in, with a leg tattoo of a popular pornography scene on his leg- very cool, and well done, but he wanted it covered up” she continues with a tale of a different customer “ a gentleman came in and wanted a touch up on his fingers of work I hadn’t done- at first I thought it said ‘cash only’, having a closer look, I misread the first letter- and it now had a more sexual meaning”.
In recent years, more tattoo places have been opened in Leicester. Samantha believes that this is because tattoos are becoming less stigmatized.
In a survey conducted, and shared to the Leicester public- the results are a contrast to this opinion- twenty people answered and sixty-five percent of people believe there is in fact a stigma, with only a further 45 percent of people having body art. Whether you believe there’s a stigma or not, and you’ve thought about getting a tattoo it’s best to always follow the professional tattooist’s advice “look at the art work and not the price” and “cheap tattoos aren’t good, and good tattoos aren’t cheap
